![]() I just need software to capture the bits coming in and convert to different formats. I'm not really interested in the riaa feature. I'm happy with my phono stage and building a boozhound labs phono amp which I suspect I will be even happier with. I haven't used too many ADCs so I don't have much to compare, but it sounds good to me.Īudacity does the things mentioned such as riaa eq. ![]() ![]() I use the HRT Linestreamer+ which I am very happy with. RE: Pure Vinyl vs Audacity?, posted on Maat 06:26:04 Their SRC algorithm is technically one of the best available. Otherwise, you are better off looking at iZotope RX3 - their software algorithms are VERY sonically transparent. If you have a good ADC already, and don't intend to down convert a high resolution recording then stick with the free one! Buy more vinyl with the $ you save. To answer your question, about whether one package will sound better than another for any other processing depends on what you will be doing! The package cannot affect the quality of the bits going into the machine (that's dependent on the driver layer of your operating system) until you start manipulating them in the package to do something like SRC or apply filters.basically anything that relies on calculation precision for the algorithm to perform some task to a high standard. However, for that to work would presume that you can either defeat the RIAA EQ in your phono stage (to still get the required gain), or you have an alternative high quality widebandwidth gain stage, or you simply don't like the sound of your current phono stage! The only real reason to look at Pure Vinyl is for the digital phono EQ. If you are considering Pure Vinyl, then I assume you must be a Mac user. RE: Pure Vinyl vs Audacity?, posted on Maat 13:40:22 texanater 06:28:17 03/23/14Īnd you usually get what you pay for. You can't cheat an honest man, never give a sucker an even break or smarten up a chump - W.C. Would recordings made with Pure Vinyl sound better than recordings made with Audacity? I really can't justify the cost unless someone can give me a reason other than Pure Vinyl is more user friendly. So what does Pure vinyl have the Audacity doesn't (at least once you learn how to use audacity)? Its $280 for the total package and that is really spendy for me. It took a little getting used to but now that I am past the learning curve its fine. I started thinking about that and Pure Vinyl which gets great reviews.
